A long time ago, in the early day of the Fish Company, a patron set his plate aside after a gourmet meal and remarked jestfully: “It is without fail, all the best adventures take place under a bridge:” Every day since these words have stood as both our objective and motto: Creating an adventurous experience.
Our cuisine has tones of Scandinavian fusion but is built upon a strong foundation of traditional Icelandic dishes. That being said, our talented group of chefs is famous for sending tastebuds on a trip around the world.
Our location, the old Zimsen building, traces its roots back to the year 1884 but back then it was a small store. 120 years later the building was moved from its original home and placed in the heart of Reykjavík. There it was renovated and refurbished with care and love.
The Fish Company opened its doors in 2008 and has since been taking guests on daily round trips all over the country and the whole world, without anyone having to leave their seats.
Our interior was designed by Leifur Welding in collaboration with the Fish Company’s owner, Lárus Gunnar Jónasson.
Experimental and opposites are our chefs keywords and Leifur used these words when he designed the space. The adventurous yet homey feel of the place is the perfect environment for guests to take their tasty trips, both domestic and abroad, with the chef as the driver and waiter as guide.
